IPTV in VLC
Open VLC, choose Open Network Stream and paste your M3U link. VLC is the fastest way to check whether your access details work, on any computer, without installing a player app.
Setup in four steps
- Open VLC.
- Choose Media, then Open Network Stream.
- Paste your M3U link and press Play.
- The playlist opens in the sidebar. Double click a channel.
What VLC is good for
| Situation | Why VLC helps |
|---|---|
| First test of the access details | It plays the link without any setup |
| One channel freezes | You can see whether the same channel fails on a second device |
| A laptop next to the television | Nothing to install on the television |
| A quick check of the line | Playback shows whether the stream arrives at all |
Where VLC stops
VLC has no programme guide, no favourites worth the name and no remote friendly interface. Channel switching takes longer than in a television app. For everyday viewing use IPTV Smarters Pro or TiviMate. VLC is the diagnostic tool, not the living room app.
VLC takes the M3U link only. It does not accept the Xtream login.
Questions about this page
Does VLC work with Xtream Codes?
No. VLC needs the M3U link.
Is VLC free?
Yes. VLC is free software and runs on Windows, Mac, Linux, Android and iOS.
Can I watch every day with VLC?
You can, and most viewers do not. There is no programme guide and no favourites screen.
Why does one channel fail in VLC and work elsewhere?
Then the channel is the reason, not your setup. Try another channel and tell us the name.
